I remember the days when we organized the first FOSS student organization I believe in my region if not the whole of Mindanao. It was indeed a momentous occasion for us considering that being a newly formed organization we were faced with a lot of challenges then. The biggest is the Software Freedom Day (SFD) celebration which we organized in partnership with DabaweGNU, Inc.

I’ve been using WP for a couple of years now. In fact, this blog of mine hasn’t been updated (psst!!! security flaw) with the latest update.
Anyways, when I heard about this
WordCamp through the mailing list of
Mindanao Bloggers I immediately got interested but a bit hesitant. I can still remember the last time I attended the 1st Mindanao Bloggers Summit, I didn’t maximize the time to get along fellow bloggers (nakakahiya din kasi sila2x magkakakilala na, though I know some of them already). I was with my wife in the summit… But it’s not a hindrance I guess because my wife is also a techie (though a bit).
This time with the
WordCamp I hope I can make use of it to get along with other bloggers. Thanks to the organizers of this event, at least we now have a chance to get along with the premiere WP experts.
Oh yes btw, this event is sponsored by the following enthusiastic companies and individuals:

As far as my experience is concerned most of the time when somebody would like to try out a software he normally download free versions (freeware, evaluation copy, etc.) or look for its equivalent or derivative. Moreover, when the software is found to meet the users needs, a few things normally happen these are:
- Look for a copy of the software in p2p wares (limewire, emule, etc.). And to put icing on the cake professional or enterprise edition is mostly the choice.
- Try to look for the software in torrent repos and again look for unlimited (Pro & Enterprise) versions.
- Look for crack or keygen of the software.
Well, these are common to most users who want to use the software without even considering spending even a cent for it. Most of the time, I believe these are the common causes of software piracy.
What about you, what do you normally do? Have you tried looking at mature free and open source software equivalent of the software that you are looking for?

When teachers do not check the class attendance most of the students will be tempted to skip classes. When teachers introduce activities (specially online activities) students tend to relax and feel so loose to a point that they become dumb and irresponsible.
- Isn’t it because they are not ready for things like these?
- Is it because they are just LAZY?
- Is it because they feel that this subject is less important?
- Isn’t it because they don’t feel any pressure at all?
- Or they are just being irresponsible and pretend as if they know what they are doing believing that it is the right thing?

Back to FOSS…
I just got my new 160GB HDD for my old but priceless laptop. Immediately after, I installed it and got my Rescue CD from Toshiba to run (something like ghost to replicate everything and start anew). However, because it’s using the ghost replication it created a single participation similar to the old one but this time only 1 partition for the entire disk. That’s bad… after a couple of hours installing/uninstalling the stock software I got tired of looking for pirated installers (which I don’t have in my possession since I shifted to FOSS). So I ended up, installing 8.04 (Ubuntu) in my laptop and the same as my OS before I easily get used to it and it’s very nice and sweet… Lovely…
Nevertheless, I missed my 7.10 because most of the things that I need I already had it in my 7.10. There were many third party applications and addons that I already installed which I expected to be present in 8.04 but to my dismay… it’s not there.
Anyway, this is just my 1st run with 8.04 and I am pretty sure that I will also love this the same as the 7.10 I had before. Many improvements but I have yet to discover almost everything… Will let you know soon.
Cheers…
