Who’s next on the Microsoft Allies..
Just recently the open source community were stunned by the partnership between Novell and Microsoft. Patent coverage as they (Microsoft-Novell) claim will no longer be an issue because M$ will no longer have interest in filing a suit for patent infringement for Novell users/developers. There will now be collaborative efforts between these two software giants on developing more functionality for smooth compatibility. The interoperability of various open source products (i.e open office and samba) to proprietary applications (M$ Office) will now be realized.
But what’s the catch? Do you still remember the SCO case? Are we expecting similar things to happen in the future? What about the open source community in general will this affect other open source projects? Will these encourage more open source developers to support Novell’s distro (SUSE/OpenSUSE)?
I guess it will create factions in the open source community. One who supports open source but are after of money and one who continues to develops products free of use without expecting in return. Who knows? What do you reckon?
