My Ubuntu Rig

Well, I’ve been tweaking my rig from time to time and got used to using the proprietary software that comes with it [M$]. Well, sad to say most of the apps that we are using in the office are all for M$ however i am slowly pushing for changes for financial reasons.

At the moment, I am now using Ubuntu 6.10 and I am happy with it. Ever since ubuntu hit the waves in distrowatch I fell in love with it and in fact is constantly pushing for its use. However, some of the people I met (here in the office & outside) are reluctant and are very apprehensive when it comes to these things… shifting from M$ to FOSS.

We have started an advocacy about FOSS through the use of FOSS apps in most of our classes (i.e. PHP, Aptana, GIMP, Ubuntu, etc.). And most of our students are quite happy and comfortable in using those apps. Although, we are slowly pushing for FOSS migration it’s a good thing that our students and some of the faculty are aware of alternative software which is at par or even better compared to proprietary software.

Btw, we are using moodle as an LMS for our online delivery to support our products developed in CD format.

Also, thanks to LSG-Davao for keeping us posted on FOSS happenings in the city. Good luck guys!!!!

Well, that’s the story for now… I’ll be back soon.

Thanks
