Yoyong in Afhat
After a long week of work me and my wife decided to grab a bite in AFHAT a famous chinese restaurant in Victoria Plaza compound. We ordered just a couple from their menu. While waiting for our order to be served there was this sudden flock of diners coming in. Obviously they were not from Davao because they seem to have a tour guide and with that number I don’t think it’s from a company or a family celebration who rushed in. There I saw familiar faces, even if they are not from Davao, they were basketball stars in their era. At first I noticed Atoy Co and after a couple of minutes I saw Yoyong Martirez… Sus ginoo, he’s famous tag line in showbiz (oh by the way he’s also a showbiz personality).
Yoyong roamed around hopping from table to table as if he’s “langaw nga pulag lubot” - fly with a red butt. Yoyong entertained his companions, as I expected him to be that bubbly. I told my wife he was a popular basketball player during his time. Flying from one table to another he passed by near our table and began to talk to his companions and introduced some delicacies to them served by the resto.
After a couple of minutes he turned around and noticed us and bubbly as he is, he smiled. I know that he is bisaya so I threw a line “kumusta bai?” and he replied ” ok lang” then continue to introduce his group. Fortunately, he transfered to our table and continue talking as if we were mates
I was so amazed with the attitude of this guy. And while we are talking I jokingly asked if he is still in the local government and he replied “YES, human na ko sa akong 3 terms as konsehal sa Pasig”. I jokingly said to him, “next time Mayor na jud ka dha sa Pasig” and he said “Naa si Mayor Eusebio dha kuyog namo, vice mayor ko ron”. OMG, I didn’t expect that he’s the vice mayor of Pasig because he was just too casual, I even called him “bai” not knowing that he is the vice mayor :).
Well, that’s about it.. fortunately it was an amazing moment, surreal but nice :).
